A Proven Champion Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

A Proven Champion

Some hits.
Followed by many to miss.
Should never discourage.
Prevent or become dismissed.
By anyone seeking to be a champion.
With this done to eventually come.
To know it took effort, faith and belief.
Leaving behind to find naysayers,
Lost without words and glued to seats.
Yet determined they are to ignore,
The roar of the crowd.
And before a proven champion,
Picks up the bat.
Or can be seen near home plate to swing.
Expectation means everything.
When one has become a proven champion.
