A Rare Successful Hunt During Winter Poem by NHIEN NGUYEN MD

Winter has been here more than one month
But last few days, we had spring-like weather
With day temperature reaching mid-sixties
After few weeks of cold weather down to teens.

Yard activities appeared at accelerating speed
Young squirrels played and jumped fast on mulberry tree
Several small birds hopped on same tree bare branches.
Happiness filled their chests, these birds started to sing.

Our roaming cats spread out in front and back yards
Some of them roamed along the macadam driveway
Some of them played and rested on our clay tennis court.
Some of them enjoyed basking in springlike sun rays.

A big deer came into our yard through the evergreen hedge
Searching for new green grass as its special day treat.
However, we had a biggest surprise that we never expected
Cat Monkey brought home and dropped a mouse at my wife's feet.

If this warmth trend continues for another week
Ground hogs may wake up on Groundhog Day for earlier Spring feast.

CUỘC SĂN THÀNH CÔNG HIẾM CÓ MÙA ĐÔNG


Trời vào đông đã được hơn một tháng
Mấy ngày qua trời ấm giống mùa Xuân
Nhiệt độ ngày cao gần tới sáu lăm
Sau mấy tuần lạnh chỉ còn mười mấy.

Sân cỏ nhà bỗng nhiên mà tấp nập
Trên cây dâu, sóc con nhảy như bay
Vài chim sẻ trên cùng cây nhảy nhót
Vui đầy ngực, chim cất tiếng hót vang.

Lũ mèo vui đi sân sau sân trước
Và đôi khi tránh cỏ, mượn đường xe
Vài con chơi, nằm nghỉ sân tennis
Hay nằm dài sân cỏ tắm "nắng xuân".

Một nai to lách vào qua bờ dậu
Tìm cỏ non để hưởng tạm ngày xuân
Điều không ngờ, đầy ngạc nhiên thíc thú
Monkkey về, miệng ngậm chú chuột con.

Nếu trời ấm thế này thêm tuần nữa
Groundhog sẽ thức giấc báo mùa xuân.
