A Restless Soul

Even as the restless ravages of my inner being,
Play havoc with my soul,
The perennial questions of life and love
Are a grief beyond console
Sometimes, when the world is asleep
I hear a cacophony of sound
A private frenzy of emotions
A pyre just settling down
I try a tentative approach
A tremulous, nervous smile
I try to tell a malfunctioning heart
Just walk that extra mile
But the heart, like life, has its vagaries
It often refuses to listen
Sleeping, snoozing, endlessly staring,
It'll tell you something's missing
Still, in life you have the uneasiness
Of not knowing what is stole
But the heart knows you are needed
To soothe that restless soul
