A Smile A Mile Wide Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

A Smile A Mile Wide

It may take time alone,
To digest and then determine...
What purpose was meant,
By someone who expresses...
Negative assessments to discourage,
Followed by a smile a mile wide.
Clearly done with an evil meant intended.
To whose benefit will this be remembered?

And then...
A passing of time clears the atmosphere.
As someone thought to have been discouraged,
Comes face to face,
To a smile erased once a mile wide.
But now with eyes downcast.
And with lips that seem to grimace,
In a pain sustained.

It may take time alone,
To digest and then determine...
What purpose was meant,
By someone who expresses...
Negative assessments to discourage,
Followed by a smile a mile wide.
Clearly done with an evil meant intended.
To whose benefit will this be remembered?
