A Soaking Poem by David Wood

A Soaking

Rating: 5.0

I walked around my local lake today
With its fallen wet russet leaves
Mulched by heavy rain, now lining a
Meandering path with its deep
Puddles like a patchwork quilt.

Part way round it became heavy
With rain which I had to plod
Through. Trees either side dripping
Their wet falling leaves over a
Sodden path, and me.

A flash of red caught the corner of
A wet eye where a robin stood perched
On an extended twig tweeted a hello.
I paused, and we looked at each other.
I said hello back, and it tweeted, again.

Perhaps it was cursing the weather,
Though I doubt it, they are used to it.
But for a brief moment in time, and
Both soaked to the skin, we shared
Everything nature had to throw at us
With a smile.
