Polly was a captain's daughter,
Sat upon the old grey quay.
Jack came sailing on the water,
Polly won't you marry me.
I've a cabin snug and cosy,
You shall be the mate you see.
Polly's pretty face was rosy,
But no little word said she.
I'm boson of the good ship Rover,
Polly never turned her head.
Jack thought happiness was over,
Worried what he left unsaid.
I've my pocket full of money,
Down he went upon his knee.
All of it is yours my honey,
Polly won't you marry me.
Gold is very well for living,
Cabins maybe snug said she.
Is there nothing else you're giving,
Have you nothing else for me.
Nothing but my heart he faltered,
All of it is yours you see.
That is all I want she answered,
Nothing but your heart said she.
A very lovely and heartwarming poem of love that holds us spellbound . Yes, true heart really wins. A treasure beyond material wealth. Polly is indeed a great woman for Jack and vice versa. Very entertaining and well written. Loved reading it.
Lovely sentiments expressed here Shaun...very heart warming! I'm pleased to see that Polly isn't a typical gold digger....for some reason Donald Trump's ostensibly avaricious wife has crossed my mind. Anyway, It's certainly a true heart wins ten from me.... accompanied by lots of tenderness for humankind; notwithstanding the current malaise of this wanton, wayward world!
