A War Hero's Lament Poem by John Thorkild Ellison

A War Hero's Lament

Rating: 3.5

Don't fight for England anymore,
Don't fight for the chaps at the corner store,
Just go back home and close the door
'Cos England isn't England anymore.

Don't boast you're British, they'll deplore
Your ancestry and what is more
They'll kick you out, show you the door
'Cos England isn't England anymore.

They'll tell you you are just like them,
They'll laugh at you and then condemn
Your Anglo-Saxon attitude
And tell you it is very crude.

Don't blame them, they don't understand
Devotion to a fatherland:
They're here to make the very most
Of everything that you have lost.

(The cunning reader may detect
I'm not 'politically correct',
Well that is true - that's why I choose
To sing these PATRIOTIC blues! !)

Clearly written from the heart, Mr. J, thanks, and Home Rule for Yorkshire!

Thank God for political IN-correctness.The same holds true in the USA and the truth always makes enemies. Keep on writing!

wonder how long this thread will survive when all the men of old have had thier say, agree as does Ivor with everything you write, time to put up the barriers before it is too late, the future holds nothing but trouble as more Eastern Europeans enter our once great country bringing with them ethnic rivalries which sooner or later will spill into violence, sad that one of the greatest crimes you can commit is to be proud to be British, that's another thing while i'm on one, why when you choose your country on the net can't we have England as an option.
