Absolution Poem by Agirl Whowrites

Absolution

Rating: 5.0

Finally, I speak my truth.
Because it hurts your feelings, guilt fills my body.
As though I've done wrong.
I am in the right. I know I am.
But it hurts your feelings.
Never mind my feelings, my wants, my needs.
Stifled until today.
You should be the one on your knees.
Begging for my forgiveness with your mouth. With your lips. With your tongue.
You should be the one swallowing my release.
Instead it's me.
Because I hurt your feelings telling my truth and I don't yet have the courage to stand up for my own rights.
I've been told all my life to be small.
Be less. Be quiet. Be amenable.
I don't know how to stand for my truth.
So I'm on my knees before you.
Making amends for hurting your feelings.
For making you feel small.
Seeking absolution because I tried to be heard.

Reminds me of DH. Lawrence's poems to Frieda that he wrote during a stormy period of their relationship, but with a more feminine perspective.

'I've been told all my life to be small. Be less. Be quiet. Be amenable.'---This statement applies to most girls in most societies and they are fighting for equality for generations.Yours is a powerful poem, thanks for sharing.Congratulations on Poem of the Day!

The womanly diffidence in expressing one's feelings is beautifully written here. Enjoyed. Well done.
