Afraid Of A Tiger Attack During A Night Walk Poem by NHIEN NGUYEN MD

Afraid Of A Tiger Attack During A Night Walk

Rating: 3.8

I became more afraid as the night sank deeper.
Sky was pitch dark so a dirt road was too dark to see.
With sudden gust, some dead branches fell from their trees.
I got scared, imagined that wild beast jumped on me.

My parents were too poor to buy me rubber boots.
Dirt road was so cold, so it hurt my bare feet.
During rainy season, dirt road was very slippery
I walked like a duck so I couldn't go fast speed.

Besides me, there was no one else on this road.
I was so afraid that a gorilla would catch my arms.*
So scared, fear chilled my spine and neck hair stood up
In my mind, I flashed an image of a tiger jumping on me.

With very quiet steps, I walked as fast as I could.
I darted my eyes to scan back and forth.
I intensified my hearing to discern even quiet noise
My legs were ready to run if I had to escape.

When I came closer to home, I saw oil lamp inside.
I took a deep breath and dashed from the road to front yard.
Rushing inside the house, chills still ran through my spine.
I locked the door quickly to lock out my terror.

Above is translation poem of the Vietnamese poem of NHIEN NGUYEN MD:
