Afraid Of Asking Poem by Donald R Wolff JR

Afraid Of Asking

If I had the words I would sing her my heart
No love, so felt, would have ever been written
A composure of rhythm to melt the divine
My heartfelt song for her loving attention

The words I cannot speak are trapped within me
Composed flawless for a lovely so fair
When I look upon such unforgettable splendor
Only a smile is all I can share

She is the unreachable star
A beauty where time stops for a glance
A masterpiece during the prime of creation
Held once in God's very hands

Few spirits like hers are born
Most are angels therein Heaven has kept
Only imagined in the mind of an artist
For mortal eyes to never forget

Dear heart of my longing hereafter
I have no worth, worthy to break my silence
If only what I feel could be written
A song would be my hearts hopeful chance

In prayer, I dare not ask for favors
Though it burns so deep in my chest
Beating so fast I can hear my heart asking
I must, for my heart to have, rest

Give me words to break my silence
Make me brave, so I may ask
Deliver me, strength if I am rejected
Less, no glory if never it chanced

I have no song to sing for her
No wealth worthy of what I attempt
Only the stumbling of stuttering a question
I must ask or forever regret

Dear virtue, of beauty, forgive me
There is something that I must request
May I be so bold to ask for the honor
Of walking you home after class
