Africa Ocean Of Sound Poem by Dorsey Baker

Africa Ocean Of Sound

Sound of your drum
Your heartbeat
Pounds the voice of voodoo
Blackness colors
Sweaty skin
In earthy oven
You bake
Your throat thirsty
Where many waters overflow

A weeping jungle
howling beasts strange at night
Alert the danger
Lurks behind the thunder
And the lightning
That awakens the midnight

Before the rain begins to fall
Clouds open their mouths
And they begin to speak

Now the tongue once silent
Becomes an ocean of sound!
