A Portrait Of Ugliness - Poem by Dorsey Baker

When I look around me
I don't see no
barnyard full of joy
no fields of dreams
no baskets of laughter
no streams
running so smooth
but I see
the clogged waterways
the potholes
the cracked streets
the crowded roadways
trash cans full of garbage
loneliness unhappiness
in many places
explosive and destructive
motives
angry storms
rage all about us
mountains once strong
now crumbling down
before us
oceans too full of themselves
now overflowing
nature like a monster on rampage
viciously attacking us!

Nice poem, and congrats on POD. Whenever I want to see a portrait of ugliness, I just look in the mirror! (Report)Reply

Nature is warning us not to pollute, and crowd with the kind of congregation the new society requires. It has consequences. A sad but ugly reality of modern life. Great poem. Congratulations Dorsey. (Report)Reply

We are destroying the world by polluting it. Nature will not watch it unconcerned but it will react. Congrats! (Report)Reply

Really an insightful piece on the need for conservation of nature written with clarity of thought and mind. A witty creation set aside for sober reflection. Thanks for sharing, Dorsey. (Report)Reply

Very lyrical despite the ugliness you see... it is a rare insight when one sees beauty in the ugliest of things.
Thank you very much for sharing.

Excellent write. We are certainly a throw a way society with it now spilling over.

Greed and selfishness a big impact.

Our Banks have let us down still taking money from the deceased.
Fuel companies are riding a huge wave with high prices.
We don't even know if the homeless are homeless any more. Some are set up like salesmen.

We, as poets, need to look at the world through wise and truthful eyes but at the same time to find the good and the joyful and to write about it, as well. (Report)Reply

A poem full of despair? I likened it to people don't care? Poor nature is now at risk of our careless attitudes! .....well written Dorsey (Report)Reply

O' thy heart is blue print of sky
no vastness there are of love
no drops of ocean there are of tear
but a dove on sky merely is flying
on the peak of tower is just hauling a roar
no arrow, no bow, no Cupid in nature
just a rose has been dead by its thorns and fear
    //// wonderfully writing
