Aftermath Poem by Barry Middleton

Aftermath

life slips away slowly
like the slow drip of chemo
but the chemo is done

radiation burned my brain
chemo burned my guts
despair burned my eyes

three of five years pass
what lies ahead
is only a bend in the road

I do not fear storms
night is a comfort
I peer into the darkness
I listen to the wind
