Alcoholic Mechanics Poem by Madathil Rajendran Nair

Alcoholic Mechanics

Rating: 5.0

Today's newspaper reports
Latest research how alcoholics
Are hooked to their drinks
Go on binges without warning
It spoils my otherwise peaceful morning

AK235427 is released in the brain
Which inhibits normal functioning
Through pathway KA252347
The channel active in normal beings
Morons who detest bars and wine

Neurons then go in spate
Dopamine or whatever is released
The guy has no choice
Hits his seductress
The shapely bottle in all shapes

Knowledge is great indeed
But how does something
That is coded and numbered
In an imbecile manner
Make sense to an insensible mind?

So, here I am
Raising a drink of cheers
To the stars of course
As nobody is around
To share my lonely pleasures
With my favorite vodka
That is supposed not to play polka
With my nasty blood sugar malaise

Mind you, pure Russian it is
Take care you researchers
Of incurable imperialistic genre
Play not with my sensibilities any more
Lest I am trumped to the presidential chair

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The numbers in the poem are just imaginary and have nothing to do with the reported research into binge drinking.

i heard alcohol addiction has something to do with some bodies craving sugar, which i believe is an end product of alcoholic beverages. good for the bars, breweries, and other related commerce, but BAD for those unfortunate to suffer from alcoholism, first hand or otherwise! bri :)

It can be genetic. I drink about a pint of vodka most evenings. I do not stray from my yard, so as not to be a potential nuisance.

Cheers, Kelly! But a pint, which I believe is about 360 ml, is a little on the higher side for a single evening session, isn't it? Of course, I need not carry coal to New Castle!
