Aleppo

Alternative to life, despite best efforts,
Left to decompose in war's cold storm
Enough nous to struggle, not enough to die
People denied, wedged in humanity's fractures
Proper reason plays no chance to deal,
Only faith and concrete dust
to choke a child's last squeal.
