Ambition Lost Poem by Matthew Holloway

Ambition Lost

Ambition passed by
hope left aside
lovelorn and wasting
to all future days
without expectation
without ambition
hope bereft it is
steady and strengthen
thyself kind sir
for the world is after all
not as you would have it
but it is as it is after all
and the lonesome waltz
plays into the empty night
ambition is overrated
and expectation a let-down
a toast to the night
sweet sorrows delight
