America, Please Calm Down Your Anguish Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

America, Please Calm Down Your Anguish

Death is the inevitable part of life
as we arrive on this earth, we want to live
as we live we have to prepare to someday exit
but as man lives, man wants to live with dignity,
man wants to even die with dignity;
nothing prevents man from raising his voice
when unnaturally life ceases by accident or cruelty
as no one awaits tragedy and no one expects death suddenly,
yet it all happens just like an unforeseen storm
when someone misses his safety route.

So be brave to accept the reality
just as much as you are courageous
to stand out for justice and truth;
but as you see the mistakes man makes
when unexpectedly comes a treacherous act,
no one measures or senses the intensity of it
no one calculates the speed and impact of it.

O' to die with dignity is every man's dream
O' to live with prosperity and peace is also a wish
but when death strikes its arrow and kills mercilessly
even such a death was willed by destiny called fate;
so though your tears are yours alone,
though your pain is yours in intensity and thought,
those ceaseless cries will make no magic
as the one who has departed will always want you
to never die a death like him or never face crime and weep.

For crime of any sort is itself so punishable,
for death by crime is also so unforgiving;
so avoid to walk in those shoes that have nails underneath,
avoid wailing over what has hurt you so deep;
your tomorrows must be filled with strength
to enable your own self and your children go on and be strong.

And though memories may decline to abandon your perception,
forgiveness is benevolence, forgiveness is your own card,
keep it in your wallet and use it when you have to give it or
exchange it for something that will return back your own peace
for peace gives power to be cautious and careful,
peace enables mind to accept and alter the impossible.

And at this moments of sorrow, as you feel for a friend,
your grief is more than the volume your heart can take;
so, give worthiness to your own self and those around you
for life once lost will never return back even if you beg;
so treat preciously those that have to walk with you
until the road defines gentleness which alone will help you
to overcome the agony and the pain you feel,
as what you visualize will never disperse
unless you pick up prayers and fraternity and walk on.
