American Newspapers And More On The Death Of The Artist Ilya Kabakov

Rating: 4.7

nothing in the news for days.
Ilya Kabakov passed away just last Saturday
no obituaries anywhere
that I can see on a google search
apart from Moscow and a couple of art magazines.
the greatest living artist
so many decreed. over decades
our greatest artist
was roared from columns everywhere
what was his crime
that you couldnt announce his death
even briefly, American newspapers of note.
foreign ones as well: dead silence. AP?
is it because he unfortunately died
on Memorial Day weekend and you couldnt interrupt the bbqs?
that you cant seem to gather the wit
to print just one lament
or are you purging him
from the files.
for what?
his whimsical smile?
what's going on here
are you disappearing him
a la Orwell
did he start the war on Ukraine from Long Island
brush in hand? He and Emilia are both from Ukraine
and it wouldnt matter anyway if they weren't
or do you just not give a damn anymore.
about anything.
a great, even immortal artist has passed on
without comment.
as if by international fiat.
WHO'S GIVING THE ORDERS HERE
TO MAKE OUR ILYA DISAPPEAR?

Kabakov. Like myself they'll go on line and look at his Art. If it was a ‘Minor Celeb' on Day time TV all Teeth and fakery who died, he would be all over the ‘Press' with the word ‘Genius' attached to his name.

If you're poem has done anything, it's for more people to become aware of

I like the description of him as an 'apartment astronaut' in your poem 'ALICE GOES INTO THE PICTURE.' There is an article about his career and death in ARTnews.

The media silence on a significant art figure is chilling. Let us hope that it is because the lives of artists in general are not deemed newsworthy?

I like your pluck and rectitude. Please send this poem to newspapers along with an overview of the artist's career. This is an important side of your poetic voice.
