American Paranoia Poem by DM W

American Paranoia

America is still
Afraid of the long shadows
Of its own weapons.
America is still afraid
Of those who seek to avenge
Its widespread war crimes.
America is afraid
That it's dreams will become nightmares.
America is afraid
That it's privatised prisons
Will break open and
People will follow the Light,
Rather than squabble
Over the crumbs of darkness.
America is still
Afraid of its deep divides
On racial and class
Concepts and demarcations.
America is still
Afraid of poor immigrants
And visitations
By extra-terrestrials.
America is still
Afraid of those who subscribe to
Different opinions;
Other ideologies.
America is still
Rather paranoid. It is
Afraid of nothing
In particular it seems.
America is still
Afraid of eccentrics and
The singular thought
That runs contrary to the grain
And splits corporate greed
Into fragments. Thus, sowing
The seeds for a thousand
Progressive flowers to bloom.
America is still
Afraid of mass revolt by
Its own citizens.
America is still afraid.
America is still
Waiting for The Second Coming.
