An Alien World Poem by Patricia Denise Newman

An Alien World

Rating: 5.0

I'm living in an alien world
Where chaos and disorder reign
A world I cannot understand
Nor can I even explain
Simple words have lost their meaning
Strange words seem to exist
It's a language of reversal
Words I knew now have a twist
There seems a strange new order
To everything that I once knew
There's less respect and discipline
Everyone has their own view
On how we should even matter
Or when we should even care
It's very much a world of self
Not one in which to share
This is a sad reflection
In this very alien life
Not a world in which I'm happy
Full of hatred, chaos and strife
I long for the old world's comfort
Where you helped your fellow man
Safe in the world of knowing
Where you stood and understand
In this last section of my life
I want peace and free from pain
I'm tired of fighting for everything
Of always having to explain
Where once there was a helping hand
Now we must wait in lengthening queues
Where did it all go wrong for us
Has life now lost its values?
When someone shows compassion
Or even that they care
It's such a rare occasion
I can't believe it's there.
