An Empty Sonnet Poem by Audrey Stephenson

An Empty Sonnet

So now I’ve come to find that nothing lasts forever
I’ll just stick around till I find something better
Understand that happiness is ephemeral
There’s nothing to attain
Because when you think about it nothing belongs to you
Life is just a game; you’re wishing that you don’t lose
It’s not fair but sometimes wishes just don’t come true
That’s just the way it is
So you strive and you plea
And in the end there’s nothing
But a line; where it leads

So learn something from me please don’t repeat your mistakes
Find something that works and try to appreciate
Everything that just happened to fall into place
Because it’s not, its just not by chance
And try to believe there’s more than what is in front of you
Think about the consequences; don’t be a fool
Swallow your pride; never take the blame off of you
Live up to your mistakes
And in the end you will find
That your work, all your time
No longer traces that line
