An Evenings Passing Poem by Matthew Holloway

An Evenings Passing

Working back through memories
trying to create a picture of a life
trying to map the highs and lows
every love and every loss
counting missed opportunities
amongst those mistakes made
leaving more questions to answer
so many years passed by
with little to show for each one
and little momentum driving on
into tomorrow and the next day
just this moment right now
picturing the whole scheme of it
where did it all go wrong
what if anything lays ahead
maybe I'll sleep on it
or lay awake in the dark
still, still working through it
