An Exit Poem by Sumaya Aijaz

An Exit

This silence.
These heavy eyes.
This throbbing heart.
These numb fingers.
This choking throat.

A world full of noise,
yet an unbearable pause.

No door remains open.

Hands reach for the phone,
Again.
Again.
Again.
Searching for an exit
That never was!
