Ek ghanta koi ghar nahin hota
koi zindgi ek ghar nahin hoti
hum ek se nikal kar doosray main na jaa tay hain
ye donoN agal-bagal nahin hotat hain
Fir bhi, ghnatay ka akaar ho sakta hai
is ka dhaancha bhi ho sakta hi
chaar deewarain aur ek cHat
aur ghanta kaanch ki tarah toot bhi sakta hai
Kuch log shaanti chahtay hain
Kuch khana peena aur kuch sona chahtay hain
Main khiDki se bhar dekhnay lagi
jaisay kuttay aur billiaN dekhti hain
jab ghar main akeli hoti hain.

An hour is not a house - Poem by Jane Hirshfield
An hour is not a house,
a life is not a house,
you do not go through them as if
they were doors to another.
Yet an hour can have shape and proportion,
four walls, a ceiling.
An hour can be dropped like a glass.
Some want quiet as others want bread.
Some want sleep.
My eyes went
to the window, as a cat or dog left alone does.
-Jane Hirshfield
