An Introduction To Life, Love, Loss, And Death (2)

The brutality of age and neglect is sprawled
out on the bathroom floor its cheekbones push
for freedom, its eyes are stained, yellow, and deep.
Hair is uninterested in its growth, shooting out
in sporadic patches as an empty mouths moves
but makes no sound- A fish singing in its tank.

'Would you mind packing him some clothes
and see if there are any contact details'
Firmly involved we swallow our orders and search.
Opening kitchen cupboards we face white emptiness
only a few crumbs remain.
Entering the first bedroom we tumble over crusty
clothes and long ignored accidents
groping though the dark of dust we gather
the cleanest of the dirty creased clothes.

Cautiously entering bedroom two we enter
an alien scene, a pristine clean space.
Upon an unfuffled lacy pillow is a silk nightgown.
At the foot of the bed a pair of perfectly placed
slippers, then we turn our attentions to the
dressing table.

A dozen or so half full perfume bottles stand
in line beside them earings of every colour and
lengh, a comb with strands of blonde hair curled
around its teeth, a dented locket hanging from the mirror.
A womens world, a once upon a happy world frozen
in a universe of brutal neglect and days of endless longing.

Well-portrayed scene of sadness. I'd like a bit more...'musick' in the lines, mind... Best wishes, Gina.
