An Opportunity To Leave You Alone Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

An Opportunity To Leave You Alone

Why didn't I tell you before?
I did.
But I was not dressed the part.
I was not the vision you expected.
And your listening ended quickly.

I've been telling you.
But the familiarity of my voice...
Had not sweetened with deception.
And you became impressed,
By those who were at their best,
Expressing a falseness.
I addressed...
To your vacant eyes!

Now you find yourself completely duped.
And I don't understand that.
Since you were the one,
Who chose that life to live.

Did you not tell me,
To 'keep the faith? '
And maintain my realities?

I have.
Thanks for the advice.
And an opportunity to leave you alone.
