An Unlikely Partnership Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

An Unlikely Partnership

A green frog sat on the store shelf
He had been returned once before
He had been reduced twice again
Seems that no one wanted him to adore

I know I am weird… I have a blank stare
I am very stationary and my hop falls short
I’ll find a home with someone…I hope
I promise I will not cause unsightly warts

Here is an old lady…she seems to be lost
She is coming this way…now she gazes
Squinting and looking above her glasses
Talking to me…giving admiring praises

In the shopping basket I am placed carefully
Along with denture cream and chewy taffy
At last my waiting has ended… I am loved
Starting to wonder if this lady is a little daffy

What could possibly be the reason she cares
Soon I was to discover that she lived alone
She placed me on the table next to her chair
Close by a window…where the sun shown

I was puzzled when she offered me a bite to eat
When I declined, she said… that’s more for me
I never argue about the TV shows she watches
A pleasing partnership … we get along famously
