Ao Sen Park (Ii) Poem by Cigeng Zhang

Ao Sen Park (Ii)

Rating: 5.0

The lake was gurgling
like a jade sleeve
Winding at the foot of mountain

The willow turned mature
like the braid of autumn
Swaying in the soothing air

The sun looked contented
Combing the golden long hair
Ao Sen Park gave me warmth in September

Birds were flying above my head
I once said
“Birds have good memory”

They landed on the green grass
Near me, once, twice, triple times
I listened to the birds' twitters

I always waited for the birds to come
I would tell Alvin my dear friend
I saw ten birds, at least ten, more than last time

This is a remarkable poem! You are alone in the park, but in a very real sense you are NOT alone at all The trees and foliage have an interactive presence, the birds and you are friends - they're trying to teach you their language. And then you remember you can give your friend Alvin a gift from the day - an account of the birds. You were not alone: nature was full of presences, your mind populated with living things.

Wow! Such a beautiful piece! Wish I were there; Cigeng, to me this is one of your best, if not the best poem. When I read it, I feel the peace, and the beauty of nature, so much zen! Thank you for sharing. I'm gonna put it in my list of favorite poems for repeated readings...
