Apologies Heard Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Apologies Heard

With decades and centuries,
Long gone to have passed.
Many are living,
Wanting apologies heard.
And to them given.
For what occurred to have been done.
In times that will not change,
For anyone.

On a quick pace those yesterdays,
Can only be examined for what they were.
With a facing a doing,
Of that which took place.
Knowing yesterday and days before,
Will be impossible to erase.
Or should a guilt to surface,
Be expected to serve a purpose to prove...
A pain to feel it still remains.
But what more can people do?
Continue to blame their ancestors?
For their lives to have lived.
Without seeking to improve our own.
Or should we all turn our backs on progress?
What is it wished?

A more sensitive approach,
Shown from those who still oppress?
Or more empathy expressed,
By those who know...
Themselves to be bigoted and racists.
And will be until their deaths.
What is it wished to be wanted?
Equal this; equal that.
Equal ability to leave many,
Without opportunity to progress.
Will apologies heard to hear,
Change the disrespect...
Or lack of discipline no one addresses.
And who can be accused,
For the mental and physical abuse...
Inflicted to permit it.

With decades and centuries,
Long gone to have passed.
What other excuses do people have,
For allowing themselves...
To deluded what others should do.
When it is obvious,
It will take more than apologies heard...
Before people will admit,
They sat to sit...
Awaiting for someone else,
To fix a predicament claimed not to want.
Yet on a daily basis create it.
And with a mindset fixed,
On empathy and apologies to get.

It's like this...
Living to make accusations.
No matter how valid they may be.
Only leaves the accuser,
Left to want it known and shown...
How best they can stay and portray,
Remaining to play the victim.
At their own expense.
With or without,
The hearing to be heard of apologies!
