Apples, Cake, And Gumdrops Poem by Victoria Revier

Apples, Cake, And Gumdrops

Soundtrack of my life
Repeatative hurt in my head
I've heard this track a million times over again
I hate this beat
Yet it moves me in this direction and that
Taking me to new places daily
Up this building and down that cliff,
Into the fire of our family tree,
I fall into this gripping trap over and over again
Just like the prime of this vexing song
Take my hand old friend
Do you even remember me?
What we once had,
It was the golden spoon that held my spirit
I think you do remember
No matter how terribly you want to out live me,
And those years we spent together,
You and I both know you can't,
And neither can I.
Stuck in the hate and fear of this land.
Running and tumbling through these weeds we call a life
We don't need anything more
You know you aren't this person
Change has eaten away at your face and soul
And though it makes the tears sting in my eyes,
You know it can never change me.
Love for always...
Love for now.
See you in the desert
Round the sand and rocks
I'm here,
So what are you waiting for?
We are more alike than we would ever admit
To anyone but each other
Thank you for these years
These twelve long years.
Love forever, sweetie.
