Approaching Seventy Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

Approaching Seventy

Did I ever think that I would ever reach
the number of years that add to seventy
Happily I am looking forward to a birthday
celebration… enjoying the life of a retiree

I have no illusions bordering on fantasy
I do have a simple childlike appreciation
for the world around me and my kinships
I marvel at what I have with exhilaration

Blessed to see the rays of the morning sun
as I begin each new day with a steady stride
Thankful to be a part of sights and sounds
as I dip my toes in the stream of being alive
