April Poem by Raj Dronamraju

April

They made peace with jealousy
They cried about things they could've prevented
They dabbled in open-mindedness
But not enough that they started liking the world

Still holding hands, sleepwalking in light rain
Light sunshine for the half-awake subject
Alive but without sensation or attachment to what's real

Summer's scheduled now summer's postponed
Gift wrapped fresh memories are put away without being opened once again
Standby energy disappears as quickly as it was generated
Out of boyhood recollections come days without end, the sun on your back, the riches of childhood
Now we are skint in limbo; at the mercy of a bankrupt mood

Janet, have you met my friend?
He almost made me happy one time
By arriving unexpectedly in March

But usually we got the worst of the compromise
The soft thunder is not sexy, not realized
Only weak
It tells us of muddy fields, wishy washy weather
Can't make up my mind to put on a coat or not
