Are We Heading Towards Dystopia? Poem by Paula Glynn

Are We Heading Towards Dystopia?

This planet we sit on,
The earth in orbit,
A supposed paradise,
But we abuse it so well,
We put the planet,
And human race into hell,

For we are the villains,
We are the bad guys,
Set out to destroy the world,
No Mars mission,
To save the planet,
From ourselves.

We are the damned,
Watching earth burn,
In a ball of flame,
We are evil perpetrators,
Who refuse to take the blame.

We deserve our comeuppance,
We deserve this hell,
For the world is being destroyed,
And people are burning in this hell,
We created with our drugs, guns,
Murdering, terrorism, ethnic cleansing,
Nuclear bombs, air strikes,
Persecution: bullying even,
Walls to separate us from each other,
Whether the Berlin Wall,
So rightfully torn down,
Or the wall on the Mexico border,
That makes people up in arms,
With their riots and savage words.

Do we ever learn from the past?
Why do bombs drop?
Blast after blast?
We are destroying the rainforests,
We are making animals extinct,
We are abusing animals,
We are abusing our children.

We are evil and need to learn,
That if we do wrong,
We will burn,
With all that we have destroyed,
Nearly destroyed,
Blood on our hands,
God's master plan,
To save the day,
Save our rainforests,
Save our animals,
Save our children,
Save the whole world.

This is my dream,
And I will work,
To make that dream come true.
