Are You Poem by Francis Duggan

Are You

Are you one of those going to nowhere the road to there is rough and high
I too am a fellow traveller somewhere between here and nowhere I'll die
Like you I once dreamt of things better back in my forgettable prime
When I first became a poetaster a writer of doggerel rhyme.

Are you an incurable romantic one in search of your soul mate in life
A beautiful like minded woman one to love and an ideal wife
For a cultured fellow such as you and though you feel luck in love you are due
Your chance of meeting your soul mate is one in a million and dreams seldom ever come true.

Are you one of those going to nowhere if so on that road you'll meet and see
So many forgettable people and one of those is bound to be me
People in their lives disappointed they will die on the road to nowhere
They missed the turn off to the road to success in the bigger World out there.

Are you one who dreams of being famous you fancy you hear the fans chanting your name
When you kicked the winning goal in the final at the end of a memorable game
It is nice to enjoy flights of fancy and 'tis nice to imagine your dream
But not everyone can be famous and play in a World renowned Team.
