Are You Rich Or Are You Poor? ? ... Poem by Sharon Smith

Are You Rich Or Are You Poor? ? ...

Rating: 5.0

Yes...I look around..and There is a lot I see
Many people living in a state of luxury
'Luxury? ' they say..'but alas..we are poor'
Complaining about this and that and..'now we need more'

Let us take the pharaohs..and the kings in ancient past
They had less comforts then..than in this century last
A feather was used to fan them..servants so very near
Today..press a button..cool air is instant here.

The 'help'..they were there..worked hard to make their food
Preparing what is pleasing to their taste and to their mood
Today it is the same..but they just sit and only ring
Then someone rushes over..to the door their food they bring.

Not many need to labour..to grow their food today
They just have to walk right in..and the food all on display
But again You had it written..You had already seen and known
in an earthly sense this means..'you will reap what others have sown'.

Do they even realise what riches they have today
Do they sit and thank You..even take the Time to say?
Do they know trust in their riches..happiness this won't bring
I've seen some happier people..that do hardly have a thing.

Psalms 49: 16 Do not be overawed when a man grows rich, when the splendor of his house increases; 17 for he will take nothing with him when he dies, his splendor will not descend with him.18 Though while he lived he counted himself blessed- and men praise you when you prosper- 19 he will join the generation of his fathers, who will never see the light of life.20 A man who has riches WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING is like the beasts that perish.

Rich is a comity that few truly understand what the have. And I'm not talking about materialistic. For those are even plentiful then the ones I speak of, The ones who plenty of loved ones, family and friends in their lives. And don't even understand how lucky they are. They take it granted every day. But with a blow of an ominous wind it could be all stolen away. Trust when I know this oh so personally. Like a next door continuously knocking it will never leave my mind. No matter how hard or how much I wish, in life theirs is still no rewind, Once it is lost sometimes it is so hard to get back. Especially the older you get.

An interesting piece; your poem inplies that a certain perspective is required to understand what you're saying - and I do agree with you; wealth and possessions do not guarantee happiness, but can help ease one's living conditions. The trick is to make sure that one's possessions don't own one's self; loved the Scriptural footnote! -Joe Breunig Reaching Towards His Unbounded Glory

Factual and absolutely impeccable! ! If we could take but a moment to reflect on the countless blessings that are more than often taken for granted. Thank you Sharon.

Thankyou for your comment Veeraiyah. There are many people around the world that live in poverty and the message I was putting forth is that many people just don't realise how well off they are compared to these people. There are some that complain when they, without sometimes realising it, have so much.

Sharon Maree Smith, everyone has the right to feel rich or poor under comfortable condition in different era, but people are still poor all around the world and they have the right to live comfortably.
