Art Poem by Ehsan Ehsan

Art

My wife and I both are the painters
We kept on painting day and night
These paintings were sometimes sold
And sometime went to the store of home
When these were sold, we became happy
When these were stocked we became sad
We did not know exactly what it happened so
We became disappointed when we read
About the great artist Vincent van Gogh
Who had been painting throughout his life
But could hardly sell even one because
He thought that art did not need
The support of any crutches to stand
It had its own fragrance and value
To be known and recognized by the people
One day a friend or us visited us
We put our problem before him simply
Telling that our income was not stable
He was in the field of commerce
And talked to us in commercial terms
At the end he asked us to follow him
We followed his advice and lo!
Our creations began to sell like hot cakes
We set a routine of our production and sale
And started to lead a comfortable life
We thought however that commercialism
Had always been a necessary part of Art!
