I am happy as I am
In this quiet time of life.
Past the questions
Past the ambitions
Of what I might become.
I am happy as I am
In this quiet little house
Past the midnight feedings
Past the bedtime reading
Ready to let go of my sons.
I am happy as I am
With this quiet quaint routine
Time spent alone
Time spent in contemplation
Of what is yet to come
Before my sons bring home brides
Before their wives give them sons
Before the cycle begins anew
In this period of rest
I will grow.
I will write.
I may travel.
Or the world may find me
To ask questions I cannot answer.
But in the back and forth of why and reply
We all may find a thread of thought
To follow on our own ends.
In the meantime I am content
To simply be, to prepare
For what may come
Or what may pass me by
As I sit soaking in life.
