As the day draws to a close
The trill of birds' chorus
Crescendos to a shrilling peak
Their busy day ended to find and seek
Juicy tidbits to feed their chicks
Majestic herons rise up into the sky
Spreading out their sweeping wing span
Heading to their high nest for night rest
Chipmunk family scuffles swiftly across lawn
Anxious to return safely to their hidden den
Shadows deepen across the garden paths
Woodland fir trees whisper in the light breeze
Their whistling seeming to emit a simple tune
The brook beyond babbles over the gravel bed
Its sounds echoing through the surrounding woods
As the sun edged even lower into the horizon
Dark shadows appeared menacing and ghostly
Nature's natural sounds ebbed to virtual silence
Our golden globe sinks behind the distant hills
The last of day yields to the dark of night
