At The Doctor's Poem by Margaret O Driscoll

At The Doctor's

Rating: 5.0

In the doctor's waiting room
Pharmacy adverts on the screen
Patients waiting patiently
I flick through an old magazine
Over an hour later
I'm feeling a little vexed
Then my name is called
I'm glad that I'm next
I go into the clinic
The doctor isn't there
A printer with reams of prescription paper
Is just beside my chair
There are pigeon holes for syringes
On the desk a blood pressure cuff
A sticker roll for children
Among lots of other stuff
A current medical directory
An ear thermometer by it's side
A brown leather briefcase
A MIMS prescribing guide
On a calendar a Ndebele painting
Amid the clinical scene
The colours and patterns
Make me feel serene
