The Only One Poem by Margaret O Driscoll

The Only One

Rating: 5.0

He checks his neighbour's bee hives
He's the only one still living there
His neighbours have fled the war
The town in ruins, shops all bare

He tends his vegetable garden
To the sound of shelling nearby
Collects eggs for his lunch
Wiping a tear from his eye

Very sad and painful moments! I should appreciate how the writing touched the hearts of the readers depicting the clear picture of the scene!

Thank you Queeny, I wrote it in response to a short documentary filmed in a war zone
