At The End Page Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

At The End Page

Leave silently as the fog fades with the morning light
Go swiftly as the wings of doves in their hurried flight
And never again look back for a glimpse of me asleep
For I might wake up to your going, and then I will weep.

Depart with the past, take the dreams that we cherished
Perhaps when you are gone even memories will perish,
The dread of each day will silence all songs we treasured
Leaving me with longing for a love that never endured.

Doors will be closed like pages read and then turned,
For the hours that had passed, they have never returned.
Like time that keeps its coming at every setting of the sun-
A deed that broke a heart can never ever be undone.

The waking up to pain may be slow and heavy- laden,
I'll be standing up to face what's there, perhaps to love again.
I may cry a downpour of tears that's enough to drown a hundred,
But I'll pick up the pieces, breathe new hope, and live instead.
