Autumn's Eyes Poem by Aamir Abdullah

Autumn's Eyes

Autumn's Eyes
POET: Aamir Abdullah

And then I conversed
With her eyes in detail
Laying each crunchy leaf aside
From her rugged face
She like a homeless bird, gazed
In a sorrow filled silence
Uttered a shriek
With the lips sealed
I , only I could hear

Asked I for those portraitures
Immersed in colors
Twisted and turned
Whirled and spun
Danced in a velvety dream
Illuminated the eyes
Then engulfed by the tears

Mentioned I, the faces of those
Through whose gleam appeared
Paths above the milkyway
By walking along …… she
Reached to her seventh heaven

To get just a glimpse of mine
Searched I deep into her eyes
And touched the hell ablaze into the core
With tongues of fire
It turned me into ash
Now I am ash in front of fire
Now I am fire in front of ash! !

'Autumn's eyes' shows the complexity of thought and emotions of the poet, Aamir Abdullah.

I feel that the poet is talking of a lonely, insecure girl. He communicates with her through the eyes and not the tongue. As he communicates, he pushes away "each crunchy leaf" symbolising the pain of her story. Amidst quietude, he hears her shriek, which was not audible to anyone else. First para, I think establishes the special bond the poet has with the distraught girl.

The second para is too springy as it pushes the reader up and dow. It creates real ambiguity. The poet talks of mauled and mutilated paintings and the velvety dream meaning airy environs. The portraitures first brighten up his eyes and then brings tears.

The poet further clouds the vision of his readers as he mentions the paths above fabled Milkyway (tight collection of stars)The girl walks along the stars and is in a state of happiness and pleasure: "seventh heaven."

The poet tries to discover himself through the eyes of the girl. But, he sees inferno inside at the "core". The ending of the poem beautifies it,when dichotomy in existence is shown: "...I am ash in front of the fire...I am a fire in front of the ash."
I would like to interpret the poem as an enigmatic work of art which shows variousness and otherness of our lives. The title makes me believe that Aamir is essentially talking of sad moments in life as Autumn shuns charm of blossoming season. And, his worldview is of fruitlessness.

Aamir Abdullah your poem gives me the pleasure of solving a riddle. Awesome indeed.
