Be My Flame Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

Be My Flame

When I am standing in the dark
Unable to see what surrounds me
Be my last match.

When I am spelunking in Plato’s cave
Unable to sense its immenseness,
Be my pitch torch.

When I make camp in a primeval wood
Unable to keep the wolves at bay,
Be my camp fire.

When I sit at home alone in a winter blizzard
Unable to keep the cold away,
Be my hearth fire.

When I lie on a bier set next to a holy river
Unable to see or hear anymore,
Be my funeral pyre.

If you will be a tiny light in my darkness
If you will throw shadows on my walls
If you will preserve me in my own wilds.
If you will comfort me during my emotional storms
If you will be the love that releases me to eternity

Then I will carry you inside me like a pilot light
And I will burn your name in stars across the sky.

looking for the next poem of yours to read, i was drawn to the title of this one—flames can do that, can't they? the deep earnestness of this one impresses me. -glen
