Because I Am A Youth Poem by Obed dela Cruz

Because I Am A Youth

Please do not look down on me
Just because I am a youth
I also know how to dream
And my actions speak the truth.

Do not tell that I'm too young
For all of us are children
You and I are the same from
The watching eyes of heaven.

Deny me not expression
Oh, deny me not my voice!
I do not seek to rebel
I have freedom, I have choice.

If you only know my will,
It says that it wants to care
It says that it wants to help
So give me this chance to dare.

You tell me of great heroes
And you tell that I can be
Do not flatter when you say,
'You can create history.'

Because I believe I can
For as long our God is there
'Let His will be also mine',
This is an earnest prayer.

Trust me to do what is right
I will do the best I can
Let me know and feel your trust
I'll be more than any man.

Please do not look down on me
Just because I am a youth
I also know how to dream
And I seek to share the truth.

Perhaps most of you now know that I graduated from college as Cum Laude at the age of 16. I was also awarded as one of the most outstanding students of our class. During my college years, I served two years as a student organization president. Our organization also received an outstanding award for our contributions to the school. It was not an ordinary experience.

You see, it wasn't always been that easy. Once, I received criticisms because I am too young. I don't want to believe them. For the record, I say that God can use me and all other young individuals for His greater purpose!

I believe that regardless of age, whether young or old, we all have a voice and WE CAN DO GREATER THINGS!
