Before And After Poem by APPHIA GARCIA

Before And After

Rating: 5.0

I remember when you steered into my eyes,
I remember when you kissed me,
I remember the first touch from your hands,
I remember when you first said you loved me.

We use to visit pond sites
And threw stones in the middle of conversation,
We held hands while walking towards the sunset,
Barely wetting our feet in the oceans
As we walked along the sea shore.
That brought us great excitement
Fights and quarrels we did not know.

You use to call me multiple times a day
And yet we met on afternoons.
Roses, chocolate or even a mint, you brought me gifts.
I was always contented
I never asked for more.

Five years now we have sealed our commitment
We've stood before more than one hundred witnesses
And took our vows.
From hence forth I've thought
Its happily ever after
The love of my life I have with me now.

But I stay home all day
Washing and sweeping
Cooking and dusting
Send the kids off to school and more
Anxiously awaiting the hour
You would come walking through the door.

The sun has set,
The hour has long gone
You come home late at night
Tired. Exhausted. Dirty and worn.

You swiftly freshen up and calmly lay your head
Its after ten so its time for bed.
You say you'll be home early the following day
But five years now things have been just this way.

I lay on my pillow beside you
And not even good night wishes
Are whispered in my ears.
The night is so cold.
I gently wipe my tears and reflect....

I remember when you steered into my eyes,
I remember when you kissed me,
I remember the first touch from your hands,
I remember when you first said you loved me.
