Before The War Begins Poem by Aneek Chatterjee

Before The War Begins

Rating: 5.0

Let me count tears
before the war begins
Let me sense wounds
before the war begins

After the war, I'll see
nothing; no cottage, no tree, no smile,
no love, no trust. War will take away
green grass, melody and dreams

Only ravaged land, betrayed
looks, malnourished children
hanging from the arms of
wretched, raped mothers

Let me cry loud before
the war begins, because
I'll have no tear left
after the war
