Bernie Hassett Poem by Francis Duggan

He was the quiet achiever in his own quiet way
And quite generous and witty his friends of him do say
A good father to his son Michael and his daughter Ellen and a devoted husband to Lee his good wife
And he was one who made many friends on his journey through life.

His loyalty to the Melbourne Football Club it went back many a year
And he loved to talk of footy as he enjoyed a beer
Known for his wisdom and intelligence and his generosity
And a gentleman in every way and few as good as he.

What can be said of Bernie that has not been said before
Tis sad to think from Belgrave he has gone forever more
A huge loss to his many friends and his wife and family
And his passing has left a huge void in the Hills Community.

Farewell to Bernie Hassett and may he rest in peace
At least from his physical suffering he has found a release
In the Dandenong Ranges he will not be seen again
But with everyone who knew him fond memories of him will remain.
