Best Friend Poem by shannon wright

Best Friend

Rating: 5.0

I heard you today.

I almost said I heard your voice today
and for all intents and purposes

I did.

it had been so long

days

but they felt like years

I was just starting to choke
on the hours.

it was like old times,
I peeled back the homesickness,

guess what I found?

my best friend..

Enchanting and beautifully structured. 'Best friend' begs the question, 'who or what is meant? ' since there are so many possibilities. I think the poem is richer for the ambiguity.
