Between Distance And Distant Poem by Mitzi Kesterson

Between Distance And Distant

Oceans belong between us
Or Montana-
Good choice.
Someday I'll put the ocean there
Between my big toe
And your left elbow.

Maybe if enough perfect afternoons pass
Into mild evenings,
I'll take the bluest sea
And place it in the distance
Between my chin
And your flouf of hair

So we can breathe in the spaces between
And it won't be so far
(Because everyone knows that
Bluest-blue is the shortest distance
Between two points) .
