Between The Lines

Prevention of our 'imprisoned essences' from 'exhaling'
was a humble duty of the guardian spirits,
according to a lasting poet, Alexander Pope.

How they did it he did not mention,
leaving that to the reader's invention,
particularly dedicatee Arabella Fermor's:
to ease her rage at the rape of her lock
was the poet's crowning intention.
